Not foggy, but wet.

Still has more condensation than I’d like. But quality product.

Upgrade for me

A couple of years ago I purchased an all plastic full shield. I liked it, but there was so much plastic in the lower part that I had to yell for anyone to hear me. This hybrid solves that problem. Much better air flow and easier to communicate. A good purchase.

Not vented well

Unknown

The visor itself is very good - holds up well and does not fog up. This is very hot and not well vented. If you sweat a lo, its miserable. The sweat gets on the inside of the mask and can only be wiped clean with a towel. Otherwise any other item will just smear the sweat around. Would not recommend

It's ok

It takes a little getting used to. I prefer my Bauer Re-Akt cage. Doesn't fog up. Guess that's a positive.

Great functionality, but scratches easy. Doesn’t

Works great, but it scratches easy. Doesn’t fog up as much as my old one

Face shield

The crew at pure hockey went over and above. I came in just at closing to get a face shield they had the correct size and installed it . Love the no cage lines in front of my eyes. I would definitely recommend this product, and Pure hockey

Great quality but…

The quality on this shield is excellent. Visor seems to be crystal clear and the bars are nice and thin, BUT unfortunately it doesn’t fit on the CCM Tacks 910 helmet. The spacing for the screws isn’t wide enough. I didn’t want to force it and potentially break the clips, or screw up my $200 helmet. I wish CCM made a hybrid! I highly recommend it if you have a Bauer helmet!

Bauer Helmets only

Awful design choice ensures it won’t fit on anything but a Bauer helmet. Returned.

Blurred vision

My biggest concern was fogging . I was told should not be an issue. I played only one game completely blurred from condensation. Removed it immediately and put my cage back on. I love pure hockey but hate this mask.

The only shield you will ever need for your helmet

This is by the best shield for any helmet. When I started playing hockey I had a full cage but it did not help my game because I felt it blocked a lot of my view, then I found this. The hybrid shield gives me full view of the game while having the protection I want. This is the only shield I will never need and highly recommend it, especially if you are just starting out in hockey.

Bauer Shield.

This is the 3rd. shield I’ve purchased for my 12U 1A player. This is just his 3rd. season as a player. He originally started out with the standard wire cage, but wanted to try the clear Bauer shield because he hated looking thru the wire cage. Bauer’s shield is excellent for protection, but is extremely difficult to deal with the scratches. I’ve tried using specific plastic read more polish by hand, but it will only remove the slightest of surface scratches and mars from the plastic. I assume this is some type of poly carbonate which is extremely tough for protection, but is a real pain like I mentioned to remove any scratches on it. Doesn’t seem to bother my player but I want to keep his equipment in the best shape as I can. I stopped wasting my time and simply get him a new shield at the beginning of the season. Even at his level he takes a lot of hard hits to it, especially from sticks so it really does it’s job in that respect. For fogging I use an old time favorite which is Prell shampoo on the inside of the shield and buff it out. Works well for the fogging. The only thing I would like to add is I wish Bauer could come up with some type of surface treatment on the outside that would help with the scratches because it’s really aggravating paying almost 70 bucks for this and then the first time you lay the helmet down or much less play with it on, it gets scratched very quickly.

Durable, but too warm and a touch heavy

I'm in an old man, no checking league. Wanted more protection than a visor but without the bars at my eye level. This works but I do find it warmer than a cage, and it will fog unless you treat before a game. It has however been durable and has met the promise of what I was sold. Every time i wear it though have to admit I feel like I am sadly in a mighty ducks film. Also read more wish I could change out visor from cage.

Better visibility and breathing than other shields

Really enjoy so far. Didn’t care much for C3 visor - fogged too rapidly, harder to breathe, scratched too easily. Painted old cage white and really helped visibility and breathing. Thought I’d try this with my new helmet and so far it’s much better - doesn’t fog or condensate as bad or at all, can breathe and see much better, doesn’t interfere with puck-at-feet view below. read more Clean properly before use! Many different ways online to do this and I made mistake of using Windex and paper towel before using - just use an optical spray and wipe for glasses. Cheap and easy and works great. For any that complain about being heavier, I feel that’s a very moot complaint. If your neck is that weak to support a few extra ounces you’re probably in the wrong sport or should work out. Personally, my painted white cage and this hybrid product has been the best for me so far.

Not perfect, but pretty good...

Having just gotten cross-checked in the mouth losing 2 teeth and damaging another requiring $8K of dental work, I thought it time to move off the half shield. I tried this on a whim. Hate having to unclip and move it up off my face to wipe sweat and drink, is a pain but managing it. The shield gives good visibility and doesn't fog if you use a defogger and keep it clean. It's hotter read more than a pure cage or 1/2 shield. Most importantly, you must adjust your helmet to fit tightly on your noggin. Otherwise the weight of the shield pulls the helmet down in the front. Once I did that, it worked fine. If you face is not the same length as the mask, the molded chin cup doesn't quite line up perfectly and you can't adjust the chin cup. In my case the bottom of the cup which should be under my chin hits the bottom of my chin. Thinking of replacing it with flat foam piece.

Huge Upgrade

Great product

Great sight through visor. Doesn’t fog up. Fit easily on Bauer IMS 5.0

Some work to make it fit, but I like it.

I originally bought a large shield to go with a large RE-AKT helmet, but it was not the right sized mask, far too big. I then got a medium shield and while I got it to fit, I had to really work with it. First, I had to screw the hinges under the bar they connect to, not on top which seems typical. Next, I had to use different j-clips. Even at their lowest, they sat too high read more and the chin pad was right on my chin, so I could not open my mount. I got a pair of after market clips, drilled a new hole in each, exactly one step above the top default hole. Perfect. Well, almost perfect. It was still a tad closer to my chin that I truly wanted, but good enough. If a set of j-clips that sat just one notch lower could be provided, that would be great. Finally, it was wide. Before messing with it, I contacted Bauer and was told that unlike a cage, it is not possible to adjust the width of the hybrid mask. After trying everything I could that wasn't permanent, I just put some weight on it, squeezing the mask until it caught the j-clips perfectly. The added bonus was that little bit of squeezing game me that tad bit more room for my chin that I was looking for. First game, I wiped the inside with some baby shampoo, which guys I play with who just use half shields swear by. It did not fog up at all. While in the ice the airflow was great. I had no problems with breathing and didn't need to think about it at all. And the improved visibility over a cage, just wow! There was just one downside. When coming off the ice and sitting on the bench between shifts, I could notice the reduced natural airflow. I could breath just fine and again, nothing fogged, but I felt my head was noticeably hotter than with the cage. Given the basic design and concept, I don't know if that can be corrected but I think it's a minor annoyance given the improved visibility.

Works great

This hybrid visor works great. It doesn't fog up at all, but it does get a little condensation on the inside. I like it much better than the other visor hybrids.

Fogs

Eternal bubble complaint, it will fog up. First few skates were tolerable and after that it started to need toweling down in between shifts

Great full shield.

Have not needed to use any defoggers with this shield. Works great. It does help to get a shield kit and use the spacers so it fits in the J clips better.

My son likes it very much.

It takes time to adapt. My son is at the front of the mask I feel uncomfortable about getting moisture. Be careful with scratches So I deal with it carefully.

Big Disappointment -- Fogs Like Crazy!!

I wore a visor for years until my league changed the rules, and only then switched to a cage. The visor was great for visibility, especially in the peripheral zones at the right, left and bottom of the visual range. The cage has always been a little annoying in that you lose some peripheral acuity because of the bars, but a puck or a stick has to hit the cage before even thinking read more about coming in contact with your face. I was truly hoping that this combo mask would combine the "best of both worlds" of superior visibility (visor) and protection (cage). Sadly, what looked great on paper was terrible in execution. While in concept the half (more like 3/4) face shield should provide excellent unobstructed visibility, the simple truth is that the (virtually immediate) fogging of the lower third of the shield significantly hampers downward peripheral vision, which is nightmarish because you can't get a visual sense of where the puck is when you're possessing it (kids, don't look down at the puck too much when you're carrying it; you'll end up getting knocked on your butt; rather, use your peripheral vision to assist you in keeping the puck on your stick, but that's something you'll have a hard time doing because of all the distorting moisture this mask is going to collect in your field of vision). The fogging cannot be avoided, unless either (a) your nostrils and mouth are under your chin (or you're a whale with a blowhole) or (b) you don't breathe, and as most normally-constructed people (x) have a nose and mouth in the right place on their face and (y) do, in fact, breathe, they will (z) tend to expel at least the very top of the stream of their moisture-laden breath right into the bottom inch or so of the shield, so this is a pretty big design flaw. My previous experience with a shield was an aviator-cut Oakley (the ones with the little upward curve in front of the mouth and nose, at least 3/4 of an inch shorter all around than the visor in the Bauer combo and at least an inch shorter in front of the mouth and nose than in the Bauer combo), and while I got a tiny bit of fogging with that visor, too, it wasn't really significant enough to affect my downward peripheral vision (because my breath stream went under the visor). Perhaps Bauer should incorporate a shorter, aviator cut shield (similar to the HDO ProClip Wave visor) into the mask, which would tend to allow expulsion of breath UNDER, rather than INTO, the visor. Also, I was disappointed that the visor cannot be replaced independent of the entire mask. So if the visor goes, you're buying a whole new face shield, cage and all. The likelihood of this happening is increased by the fact that the mounting bars on the unit are part of the visor. It should be easy to design a unit where the mounting bars are on the cage, and the shield fits into a bracket within the cage, and is removable/replaceable efficiently. I thought at least one of the manufacturers offered such a product a while back. Other than that, the combo mask did allow for decent airflow (not great because of the size of the shield, but better than a full shield, I would assume, yet clearly not as good as a full cage) and the fit was good. I simply cannot recommend this product because of the fogging. If Bauer changes the design by going with a shorter visor component (with an aviator cut) and allowing for replacing the visor (rather than requiring the purchase of an entire mask combo unit), I may consider trying that model. Until then, back to the cage.

Great Vision, No Fog, Full Protection

This piece of equipment has superior vision, does not fog and has plenty of air flow. It is slightly heavier than a full visor. I am very happy with this purchase. I will not be switching back to full visor nor cage.

Love this shield

This my second hybrid shield and it works great. I love the visibility of the shield and protection of the metal cage. The shield isn’t replaceable which is a major draw back and I most likely won’t buy another one beacause of it. Throwing away a metal cage beacause the shield has a few to many scratches on it feels like a waist of money. love the product they just need to read more sell parts for it.

Great Visibility and no fog

I switched over to this shield from a traditional wire mask. The visibility is great and there hasn't been any fogging. My one gripe, albeit small, is that there is a little bit of glare. I don't tend to notice it while playing though.

Fragile

1/3 of the way through season #2, first checking season. and the side of the plastic snapped. Otherwise, great fit and vision.

Absolutely horrible

Zac

Vision is great especially with peripheral. Fogs up way to much even after using all the anti fog solutions out there. Going back to a cage until the zero 1 mask comes out.

Good so far

Got it to replace my old full face shield which was fogging up way too much. Have used it twice. I didn't treat it with anything the first time and it fogged up the same as the old one. Put hockey spit on it the second time and it was much better. Hopefully stays that way.

Love it!

I have never liked cages but I also do not want to risk serious injuries to my face so I wore one. This mask is ideal because you get plenty of air flow on the ice. If you keep your helmet in a bag within your hockey bag and keep a microfiber towel on the bench it will not scratch at all. If you use any anti fog spray on the visor it will prevent almost all fogginess. Sure, when read more you are on the bench it can steam up a bit. Honestly, you do not even need to wipe it down then because as soon as you hit the ice it will clear up. Awesome mask, would recommend and will buy again if/when this one wears out!

Much better then a full cage.

I have had this product over a year now and I love now as much as I did when I first started using it. I never liked wearing a full cage but I don't want to deal with busted lips and broken teeth so I just put up with the limited visibility. That is until I found this hybrid cage. The visibility is great and while it can get a little foggy late in a game it clears right up as read more soon as I hit the ice and start skating.

Fogs really easy.

Fogs really easy. Lose the puck at my feet more vs a traditional cage or visor alone.

Not as good as I thought it would be

The shield came with a lot of small scratches on the it. It fogs up a lot even with fog cleaner that I purchased at the same time. Definitely expected better but I will make do.

Best of both worlds

Coming from a visor , I couldn't stand this thing at first. It's way heavier it gets hotter and I have to unsnap it every time I get to the bench to wipe my face or get water. But I have been hit in the face way too many times and this should save me a trip to the dentist. After about 10 skates I have gotten used to it .

Good in theory, flawed in practice

Purchased for my son who desperately wanted a visor style facemask. I was always skeptical of the usefulness of that style- they scratch and fog- no better visibility than a cage when that happens. First problem was fitting the "universal" visor onto my sons helmet. We were eventually successful, but it took some serious elbow grease. He wore the mask for 4 summer tournament games read more and 3 and 2/3 regular season travel hockey games- a relatively mild, but high hit broke the mask and he had to sit out the last period of play. Going back to the regular cage mask. Better visibility is not worth the risk of a serious injury.

No Broken Teeth

When a teammate broke 3 of his front teeth wearing the same half shield I had, it was time to invest in something other than dentistry services. So far, it's been good. There has been some adjustment from me so far, however I am not 20 years old so others may be able to pick this up quickly. It is comfortable, which is good. Ensure you use a clean cloth, mine arrived with light read more surface scratches already on it. I have had to adjust my breathing, if I talk a lot or breath anywhere else besides straight out the shield does slightly fog. I do use hockey spit and would suspect this helps keep the fog down, it's likely worth the $5+ investment if you don't have any. Overall, for safety and keeping all my teeth, it's worth it.

Versitle and Comfortable

Works very well with no fogging, very comfortable to wear

Fogging, poor fit on helmet

The first time I wore this, during a casual stick & pick session, so I was barely sweating, the shield fogged severely from the cage to 2 inches or so into the shield. I bought some Bauer anti-fog and it helped a little bit, but I still got a good amount of fogging right above the cage in the center. I stopped, cleaned it, added more anti-fog and about 2 minutes into play it fogged read more up again. It fogs right in the center just above the cage. Also, I bought a medium for a medium Bauer helmet. The sides of the shield don't fit into the clips on the side of the helmet without stretching the helmet out on the sides. That's a minor annoyance, but the fogging was a big problem for me.

I like the hybrid shield/cage combo

Cage allows more airflow to keep me a little cooler and reduce the chance of fogging. I like the assurance of having a cage around my chin/lower face and the ability to have the visibility of a shield.

Great Protection

I purchased this because i wanted a clear visor but i need the full cage coverage because of expensive dental work. So far I'm happy with it. It breathes very well and i have not had fogging issues. Very satisfied and would purchase again.

No fogging!!

Super easy to install. I've now worn this shield for about 20 skates, and it hasn't fogged up on me once and I don't use any de-fogging spray or anything. My vision is much better, and it doesn't impede my breathing or my ability to communicate on the ice, all things I was worried about. I can't recommend it more. Two guys on my team just got them and love it as well.

Step Up From Old Combo Deluxe 920

As an owner of now both the old Bauer Combo Deluxe 920 and this Hybrid Shield, I can easily say that this product is definitely a step up from the 920. It is noticeably lighter and provides better airflow, which eliminates the issue of the shield fogging up during play. I was disappointed to find that both the medium and large sizes are too wide to fit in the J clips of my medium read more Bauer IMS 9.0 helmet, so I ended up keeping the large as it fit my face a little better. I also found a slight flaw in the design of the helmet attachments, which a few other owners of this hybrid have mentioned to me as well. The attachments that hold the shield to the front of the helmet do not allow the shield to open up all the way when fully tightened. You can lift the shield enough to get the helmet off, but any more than that and it seems as if the attachments would crack because they are too small. Overall, you don't have much of a choice other than to purchase this hybrid if you want a half-shield half-cage combo, but it is worth every penny if you like the visibility of a shield and want full protection of your face.

Works better than Concept3

Wanting a clear visor view with jaw protection, I had been using the Bauer Concept3 - which tended to fog up (collect condensation really) if I sweated a lot (even when applying FogTech anti-fog solution to inside of visor). Since switching to this Hybrid Shield, I have not had those fogging problems - which I would attribute to superior airflow below the visor.

Excellent Choice

Very durable and yet lightweight product. Replacement lens are easy to obtain. I took a full frontal check at high speed in which the opponents stick (butt end) caught the mask head on. The mask held and provided excellent protection. Needed a replacement lens due to scratch but this was very hard hit. DOES NOT FOG UP! Highly recommend!

Love this Cage! Best of both worlds!

I cannot use the full plastic shields, they fog up too much and are hard to breathe through, I love this combo. Tons of airflow through the cage and the visibility of a shield. As long as these exist I will never use anything else. Highly recommend!
