Bauer Vapor 1X ice hockey skates Review

Wow!

Decided to grab these babies after they went on clearance. All I can say is wow! Fantastic performance, great stiffness and light as a feather. Don’t bother with the stock laces though. Get yourself some waxed laces and a nice bake and you’ll be good to go. Best skate I’ve owned

I absolutely love these skates. Extremely light and durable, plus they look amazing! I’ve blocked shots with them! I can honestly say I feel faster in them!

Great Skates

Overall a great skate and now that Hockey Monkey has brought the price down from their original price of 1k its def worth the price. Strong boot, very comfortable and i def like these more then my previous skate which were high end ccms. Decent skates

Was very excited for these since they were my first top end skates I ever had but was pretty disappointed. Liner ripped way to easy and the boot itself was coming apart. Performance wise they were great I loved the stiffness of them, the eyelets, and the tongue. The speed plates on the other hand just throw those out they hurt so much.

Easy to use website. Great price and value. Fit and break in period were great. Speed plates and skate bake made every fit and feel like a custom skate.

Bullet-proof tongue?

I suppose the huge tongue would protect your ankle when blocking shots, but no, not good for skating! My son loved his 2015 vapors and when they wore out we bought the 2017 model. I knew as soon as he put them on after baking them we were in trouble. He couldn’t get his heel to lock or the tongue to flex enough to get into a good athletic position. We ended up going the custom made route, if that’s not in your budget, go down to the vapor model that doesn’t have the crazy tongue.

Why Bauer why?

Last years 1X's were by far the best skate I've ever worn, so I was really excited to get a pair of this years model. When I went into Monkey sports to try them on I fell in love with the fit of the boot and the overall structure including the new tongue feature. Got them baked and ready to go for a skate the next morning. The second I stepped onto the ice I knew I already wasn't… read more a fan. The new tongue locking feature felt like it made it harder to engage my toes into the ice during quick starts and made crossovers feel very "clunky". I wish I could return these and get another pair of last years model but I can't find them anywhere and mine are already baked/sharpened. Currently on a mission to find a professional to swap out the tongues. Why Bauer, why? Why mess with a perfect product... It seems like every year there has to be a new feature for marketing purposes, and this year I feel like they missed the mark completley. I highly doubt any NHLers will be using this skate without a new custom pro stock tongue.

Absolutley love them!.

Absolutley love the support the boot provides and the weight is unbelievable! These help you turn tighter and i definitley noticed it was easier to pick up speed and transition with these.
