Tour Toolshed 31in Hockey Equipment Bag Review

The other reviewers said they weren't able to use the backpack function on this, but I can. I mean, I wouldn't walk extremely long distances, but I can easily and comfortably use this as a backpack from home to car, car to rink, etc. I do have to bend forward slightly to accommodate it as a backpack. I've used it like 10-15 times so far. So far so good, and I do not notice any tears… read more or such. We will see as time passes, but I'm hoping that the bag holds up over time. I'm a 5'9" adult, and it holds all my ice hockey gear, but there isn't a lot of extra room in the bag. If you're a 6' 5" person with all your gear, it might be a tight fit (or not a fit) in terms of fitting all your gear because your gear will be a bit larger. For me the downside is that it really doesn't have any ventilation. But I take all my stuff out as soon as I get home from the rink. When I'm storing my gear at home (i.e. between rink sessions and during months off), I store my gear in a mesh bag to keep the air circulation going. I believe that air flow is important to prevent any issues with odor and bacteria. I just use this bag for the actual transportation from home to rink. I'm happy so far.

Better alternative to normal bag

I’ve found this bag to be a great replacement to my “standard” hockey bag. The backpack thing doesn’t 100% work but the padded straps are easily carried on one shoulder. I love the outside pockets to keep my clean under armor in and the bag is the perfect size to fit all my gear. I would definitely recommend this bag over the traditional hockey bag.

Not Really Usable As A Backpack

Pros: The quality seems fine, and it isn’t too heavy. If you plan on using it as a regular equipment bag, it might get tight for unorganized gear carriers, but I found it to fit all my gear well. Cons: Unfortunately, these outweigh the pros. There is zero padding for the back, hence no breathability when carrying it as a backpack. That alone is a major design flaw. I compensated… read more by rearranging some things - for the padding - but that is by far not ideal. No separate skate pockets is the next drawback. Wether you play roller or ice Hockey, carrying your skates in the same area as your other gear is not a good solution on multiple levels, starting with the sanitary level. Conclusion: This bag works as a regular carry bag. If you, like me, prefer a wheel-less backpack, and enjoyed the previous ToolShed - and, man do I love mine - then this one will disappoint. I can not recommend this one, and hope the company goes back to the backpack design board for an addition to the current lineup. One that has some of the great features of the previous ToolShed model.
