CCM JetSpeed FT490 Ice Hockey Skates Review

Great performance, poor durability for the price

I have mixed feelings on this skate.. I bought a pair, but I ultimately ended up returning because I was within the 90 day guarantee. Performance wise, these are amazing. I came from an old pair of CCM U+Pros that I had for about 10 years, and I could immediately feel a difference in my skating. I felt like I was flying around the ice, and it only took me a skate or two to break… read more them in. I ended up returning though because I was worried about the durability. After just a few open hockey practices, the boots started peeling and the carbon weave underneath the laminate was exposed. I hadn't even used them in a game yet and I didn't take any pucks to the skates or take any contact. I also cleaned them off after every skate, and kept them in a seperate bag from my other equipment because it was the most I've ever spent on skates. I thought about returning for another pair of FT490's because I thought I may have got a defective pair, but apparently others have had this issue so I got cold feet and returned for a pair of Bauer Supreme 2s Pros, which dropped to the same price as the FT490's when I returned them. They were originally out of my price range when I bought the CCM's. I've been in the Bauer 2s pros for the past couple of months, and I don't have regrets. If I'm going to be spending over $600 on something, I just don't want it breaking down that soon. I tried contacting CCM about it several times, and they were not helpful at all which didn't help. I don't like the one piece injected eyelets on the Bauers, but I haven't had any problems and they feel like they will be more durable. For what it's worth, the Jetspeeds maybe felt a tad faster, but the Bauer 2s pros are more comfortable..

my first season EVER playing hockey, you might be thinking, hey this guy has only been playing one year SO WHAT i play jv hockey and against some aa travel teams. my progress is exponential (just like covid-19) and i could not ask for stiffer, more durable, lightweight COMFORTABLE skates. these skates will mold TO THE EXACT DIMESIONS of the players feet BEST SKATES if it were pricing… read more between this and ft1 or ft2 , they're literally the same thing best skates ever get these

Great Skate.

These made a huge difference for my son who had been in Bauer’s for his 7 yrs of hockey. He said “I had no idea that skates were even supposed to be this comfortable” after years of uncomfortable Bauer’s.

Fast and light with 1 flaw

This is by far my favorite fitting skate (coming from Bauer skates) This skate is light, fast, and responsive. My only complaint about this skate is the quality. During warmups of a game, the blade holder cracked. Hockey monkey helped me resolve issue. CCM as a company was useless. On my 2nd pair now and the laminate coating (the sticker with the CCM logo and red design) started… read more to bubble. I was told this was “normal wear and tear”. Fast forward 6 months, about 15 skating sessions and the outer laminate coating has peeled off one of my skates. Again CCM will not help with this known issue (based on other customer feedback on social media). Hoping Monkey Sports will help me out here!

Spend the money!

Spend the money you won’t regret it! Really well built one piece boot, newer blade holder, light weight. 600 is a value for these skates.
