With realistic expectations, you might like it
I wrote a lengthy review, with pictures, for the intermediate version. Check that out if anyone wants my full insight on this product. Made my stick 2 inches longer, was lighter than a wooden knob, and I can see and feel less concentrated friction on my glove palms. Takes at LEAST a week to get used to the change in your wrist angle. There is a process to getting this knob in… read more your stick, probably longer or shorter depending on your brand, and make. Bit of a grind, BUT if the goofy looking knob extends my glove palm's life expectancy, then I'm confident in saying this is a good product. Keep in mind, my expectations were Make stick longer. Reduce the concentration of friction on my glove palms, as I don't buy cheap mitts, and I'm sentimental about my mitts. That was the end of my expectations. No clue if my shot speed went up, I don't think I can jump higher, and I had no improvement in my USAH CEP test scores. Have realistic expectations, and you'll be happy. Some grinding involved lol
Okay this thing is weird looking. I'd be willing to put money down to say this knob is not going to make me shoot harder, jump higher, or alter the multiverse. That said, this extension is lighter than a wood knob, seems to disperse the friction that cause concentrated hot spots on my glove palms, which lead to burn out holes, and RIP gloves. I needed a short extension, and I get… read more sentimentally attached to my gloves, because I buy nice gloves. This extension will, imho, extend the life of my glove palms, and it made my stick the perfect height without being a heavy wooden plug knob. Took a week to get used to the grip, as it does slightly change the angle of your wrist. The shape makes that obvious. Every tool, and weapon our species has made, we eventually made a better grip that is anatomically a better fit. That's how I see this knob. That said, getting the knob into the sticks, involved an electric wheel grinder. "Some filing may be needed" was an understatement. Depending on the brand of your stick, using a hand file to get this knob down to where you can find tune it to fit snug, would be a great VR prison escape simulator.
Great if you can get used to it.
Tried it for a practices and just couldn't get used to it. I'd say that it does have a great feel and seemed to put a little extra torque in my shots. Just felt like I was holding a hammer with my top hand.
Amazing for players with wrist injuries
I Broke my wrist a long time ago and it can no longer twist like normal which left me with cement-like stickhandling. Then I stumbled upon these and they fixed all my problems.
Different is good
I did a lot of online research before buying The Torch. I use Bauer Total One sticks. I did not have to glue in, the fit was plenty snug. I used a rubber mallet to get the knob in. I taped the joint using black cloth and off I went to the rink. FIrst couple of games I was pulling everything and missing the net but now have settled in and I really enjoy the control and feel… read more of The Torch.
D-men's best new tool
First, I rarely write a review but do admit to reading most before buying a product. The Torch is a great tool for me as a D player. The extra leverage I have now on my one hand stick play is fantastic. I am able to wield the stick with great ease and increased strength. If you want to get a little edge when playing try this out.
Great Grip!
My son really likes the Torch. He likes how the hockey stick feels in his top hand. He plays defense and likes the grip that it adds during poke checking, etc. He takes slapshots from the point and is more confident in his shooting. Fun new product!
Can't Wait To Improve My Game!
Just ordered two for Christmas gifts and can't wait to improve my performance on the ice!!!
I will never go back.
When I first placed the torch in my stick, I did not like it right away. I put it away, grabbed my backup that was on the bench, and went back on the ice. When I went back out, I realized I could not go back to my old knob. In only five minutes of messing around I noticed a huge difference in my control, velocity, and stick handling. The leverage you can get with the torch is not… read more comparable to a taped knob. I've played around with classic knobs since to see the difference and I can't do it. The leverage is not even comparable. For as long as I play I will never take the Torch out of my stick.
Increase shot velocity!
My son bought one a while back, and it has easily increased both his slap shot and snap shot velocity by a significant amount. I've also noticed him making much crisper passes.
