Exchanged Vapor 2X for these. Got free steel
I ordered the Vapor 2X skates online and found the fit profile 2 was too low on the top of my foot. So I went to the monkey sports store in Allen, TX to exchange them and found these skates. These skates are REALLY stiff and they are lighter than the 2Xs if I recall correctly. Another thing CCM does better is the steel locking mechanism. For the blade mount, the CCM screw is super… read more easy and feels much more sturdy than the Bauer trigger. If you find a Bauer that fits, that’s great, but the fit profiles are whack. I even tried on the supremes at this price level in the same exact size and fit profile and it was completely different, with the supremes being much roomier. This skate doesn’t have the intrusive mechanism the Supertaks has on your toe knuckle meant to allow for an exchangeable tongue. No amount of baking could ever fix that. I did experience two points of discomfort that were resolved. First, the top of my toe knuckle was hurting not because of an inconvenient mechanism, but just the way they were laced. A store employee re-laced them for me and the issue went away immediately. The issue was the bottom lace that is horizontal was below the eyelets but he laced them to be above the eyelets. This allowed the bottom lace to pull the skate together without pushing down on the top of my foot. Second, I was experiencing pressure on the bottom of my foot, right below my ankle bone. This was resolved by buying a fancy insole for $50. Totally worth it. Also, CCM was running a promotion (idk if they are when you’re reading this) where you get a free set of STEP steel, which are better than the black steel you see on top of the line skates. I think it might be a $100 value but I’m not sure. Anyway, if you ever get a chance to visit the monkey sports facility in Allen, TX, it’s worth your time. Everyone there was super helpful and friendly.
Stiff
Easily the stiffest boot I have ever worn. I was concerned about the durability of the blade holding mechanism. I am about 20 ballgames in so far and haven’t had any issues.
Great, but tweaked too much
For reference, I am currently skating in FT1 skates size 8.5. A few weeks back I had my feet scanned and the results told me that I should be in a size 8 FT2. So I purchased the FT2 in size 8. I skated in them for the first time last night and while they felt comfortable and I loved the new holder and steel, the skates had far too much negative space in them for me. One of the things… read more I loved so much about the FT1 was the heel lock and the reduction of negative space vs that of the Vapor line that I had been in previously. I knew that CCM made the heel lock a bit less aggressive in the FT2, but was unaware of any other fit changes. So basically, my FT1 8.5 fit snugger and have MUCH less negative space than my size 8 FT2 (with the exception of my toes being ever so SLIGHTLY closer to the front of the boot). I was very disappointed, to say the least. I did try them on in the store, but I didn't really notice until I got out on the ice. Unfortunately, due to all the extra room volume in the boot, the FT2 is not going to work for me.
One step forward, One step back
CCM's Jetspeed FT2 skates have been far more durable than the FT1. They are very comfortable and perform on the ice. The one mayor drawback for me is the increase in toe cap volume from the FT1. One of the things I really liked about the FT1 was the heel-lock and lack of negative space. In the FT2, the widened the heel-lock slightly (still locks in well), but they also added more… read more volume to the toe cap and for me that is a real problem. The reason I left Vapor was that I had to use shims in the toe cap, with the FT1 I did not, but in my hastiness, I grabbed the FT2 and found there to be too much negative space in the front of the boot. A great skate overall, but too much negative space for me.
Awesome skate
Love this skates. Fit my foot perfectly. And the quick change blades are so awesome. CCMs fit me better than The other brands and absolutely would recommend anyone to give these a go.
Great skates
Went from the 1x skates to these and love these things so much more. Only real complaint is I’m not the biggest fan of the tongue and they aren’t as stiff as I would like.
Great Skates!!!
Wow these skates are light as a feather and explosive as heck!!! Very expensive but you get what you pay for really as far as skates are concerned! Nice skates!!
